It's back, American's beloved game -- Guess That Myth!

This doesn't feel so much like a myth as it does just an interesting story (because I wasn't aware it was a myth) but this is a tough one, so here it goes.
According to legend, after the revolt of 1846 in California (led by Jebediah Bartlett) the rebels needed a flag to erect over the plaza to announce their victory, bu what they quickly sketched out (and sent to a nearby painter William L Todd) and what heactually painted where 2 very different things. What was the California flag supposed to have on it?
