Recap: LOST 'He's Our You' (S5,E10)

Everyone must choose sides. As the tangled web of causation, ripple-effects and motivate all collapse into a heap of "what the hell?", we're introduced to another concept – purpose. Abuse, burning vans, Scotch and dipping sauces all await on the newest episode. As always, this post contains SPOILERS, so don't read if you want to be sulled.
He's Our You
What We Learned:
- Sayid is a killer. Always has been a killer (from breaking the neck of a chicken for his brother when he was 7), to assasinating people involved with Widmor for Ben. Perhaps he wants to be a killer with a purpose or a plan, but he's a killer nonetheless.
- Little Ben gets a whoopin' by his father, because he attempts to deliver a sandwich to Sayid. This in turn seems to motivate Sayid to help Ben, even though he knows what Ben will do in the future (or is that the past?).
- Ben gives Sayid an interesting book to read.
- Sawyer does his best to convince Sayid to go along with his plan. Sayid will have none of it, which in turn leads to some other pretty not so great things.
- There is a Dharma "vote" to decide what to do with Sayid, wherein Mrs. Goodspeed essentially calls for his head (a calculated move of revenge, or does she know something else?). The vote is unanimous, minus "LeFleur", as Radzinsky gives Sawyer the stink eye, and Horace uses his passive agressive babylipmouth look to get him to raise his hand.
- Juliet fears that the arrival of Kate and Jack means the end of her and Sawyer (and them "playing house"). Is she right?
- Hurley works as a Chef (no surprise I suppose) and introduces the island to dipping sauces; classic Hurley. He also ruins Kate's lovefest parade by telling her that Sawyer and Juliet are hooked up.
- In a series of flashfowards we learn of Sayids many exploits to kill Widmor people to "save his friends" (as Ben calls it), but ultimately he's brought down by another assassin (a woman he meets in a bar, buys Scotch for, and gets duped). She than proceeds to take him to Guam on the ill-fated flight.
- Sayid is drug out to the forest to be interrogated by Oldham (played by Willam Sanderson) who is the villages/Dharma people's equivalent of Sayid. He gives Sayid some sugar laced "truth serum", wherein Sayid tells them everything; truthfully – which in turn sound like a bunch of crazy lies. "I'm from the future" ... "You all are going to die"
- A burning VW van comes crashing into the village, enough distraction to allow young Ben to free Sayid and run together toward freedom. Along the way they run into Jin, who wants to let Sayid go, but Sayid socks him in the face so he and young Ben and leave.
- "You were right about me. I am a killer." and BAM! Sayid shots young Ben in the chest! Fade to black.
What We Don't Know
- What, are you kidding me? Sayid can't kill Ben, or Ben wouldn't have existed? So either 1) he's not dead, 2) he's like John Locke and must leave the island (dead) to return (dead) to become alive? 3) Or the theory of not being able to "change the past" is incorrect.
- Where did Daniel go? Did he escape? Die? Flee to the wilderness?
- Who was Sayid killing; and why? We suppose theyr'e all Widmor men, but are they really?
- What is Widmor's role in all of this? We know he was on the island, with Richard, as a soldier; but how does he know Ben? Why does Ben hate him? How did he get off the island?
- What's the deal with Christian Shephard (and Claire)? Ghosts? Hallucinations?
- Who is this Ilana?
- Why is Locke, Ben Frank and Sun in the "present", if it is the present? What is their purpose for being there and not in 1977?
An episode full of surprises, plus lots of Sayid, who is one of my favorite characters, because he defies a strict generalizatin or one-dimensionality (unlike Kate or Jack). I will be shifting ALL of my popular culture reviews and insights to a new domain (one that I've had for at least 7 years and done nothing with); Babblenut.com; so be prepared.

I had to replay the Jin part several times because I thought Sayid killed him. I instantly went into mourning thinking we were never going to see Sun and Jin reunited. I figured he didn't kill Jin, but wasn't sure until this morning when someone else confirmed.
I think little Ben was shot in the stomach, so he very well could have been wounded and not killed. With Jin having just radioed LaFleur they may find Ben in time.

It didn't appear that he was shot in the stomach; I see a hole in his chest when I look on LostEasterEggs.blogspot.com (unless that's some embroidery?)

I think the book Ben gave Sayid, "A Separate Reality," is clue.
They may have ended up in an alternate 1977 (or by going back in time *created* an alternate 1977) where killing little Ben won't actually effect future Ben (who apparently is still in the present).

A theory I saw on Lostpedia is that Ben will survive being shot. This will be one of the propelling factors to him becoming a leader of the hostiles/others.

Well, Ben goes on (I believe he's older?) to kill everyone in Dharma with poison gas as well. Why is it that Richard looks deshevled and has long hair when young Ben sees him, but we've not seen him like that at any other time? Is it just the disguises that "The Others" use?
