Morning comes way too soon when you stay up into the wee hours of the morning talking to your babysitter and your kids wake you up like an alarm clock in the morning. I have no regrets, however, that I spent that time listening and talking with the kids’ sitter, but I am oh so tired, seeing as I was already tired when I left the fund raiser party at Kim and Jason’s church last night.
Paul and I had a lot of fun last night; Kim and Jason did an awesome job arranging events for the spaghetti dinner and dance to raise money for the youth trips which their youth group go on each summer. They arranged a 20 minute video with images of the youth and the various things they did on their trips. Jason is now the official, full-time youth pastor (recently hired) and we are excited for him. Kim (as she has already proven in their adventures with the youth group thus far) will make an awesome youth pastor’s wife as she is very organized and loves helping Jason with the events and week to week youth group gatherings.
The dancing last night was so fun. A dance instructor agreed to offer free dance lessons in the raffle and then spent the night teaching us steps to the fox trot, swing, and a mamba-like line dance; I loved it; Paul and I especially enjoyed the swing, which is more our style. Even though Paul was nervous about the dancing, I’m sure he wasn’t alone in that as most people weren’t experienced and all were listening and practicing and bumping into one anther (it was really crowded).
I learned that Paul is a VERY quick learner even when he’s being taught dance steps. The last time we danced together was at our wedding and that was just slow dancing with no real “steps”. He proved to be a good and patient leader even in dancing and I really had fun.
Now I am so tempted to request swing dance lessons as an anniversary gift from my in-laws this year, being our tenth anniversary =-). But, we might not get that as a gift, since our parents will already be watching the kids and funding our trip to NYC in honor of ten years of marriage and that is fine by me. Someday, though, we will get dance lessons together, maybe at the YMCA, where it may be cheaper. It is time well spent together as a couple, I think. Or maybe if we wine and dine Jason and Kim enough, they’ll give in and teach us … haha.
