Overthinking on the endless road

Posted on August 16, 2004November 18, 2019 by Paul Armstrong

Driving for hours in the car leads to nothing but over thinking, especially our drive through Pennsylvania and Ohio with kids movies we’ve seen (well, mostly just heard) 25 times or more. Here is some of the random things that were going through my head.

“Bug’s Life” is about a war on terror, and the courage to stand up to threats, real or perceived, even if they are not popular. “Jonah: The Movie” is still disappointing, it could have been so much better — which makes me wonder when Big Idea will start to go back to their roots of simple stories, with great songs and silly interjections (mostly culled from Monty Python).

I am more than ready to move out of this house, 2 bedrooms for 4 people does not cut it anymore. Of the 4 stories I have written in my head, will I ever find the time for write any of them? Ohio is flat and lifeless, compared to the country and lush farmland of Lancaster area.

Dad makes coffee way too strong. Melatonin is cool — but Sonya says it’ll give me heart-attack, according to this one site she read …

Did I say I was ready to move! Get me out of here. I don’t feel very valued at what I do — people do far less and get paid far more; what am I doing wrong?

A Macanudo cigar ‘97, smoked outside on a cool rainy day with a smooth glass of Penfolds ’99 Magill Estate is divine.

No one wins in politics, and passion for an issue can turn into hate for the opposite — so much for so called tolerance.

Breakfast for dinner is great for fooling your body into staying awake just a tad bit longer. Roy Rogers Plainfield exit off the PA Turnpike sucks ($1 for a banana; one, just one banana!).

Money is a plague.

Trust is hard to find. Happiness is easy but joy is near impossible — but eternal and requires more work than we often will dig for.

It’s Monday, so work is to be done. Bills to be paid. Invoices to be sent.

My friend Dan is moving to Guatemala, for an indefinite amount of time. We don’t get to see each other as often as we could (living in the same town). We have a brotherly connection, mutual interests, encouragement, questions, pursuits, passions. I will miss him dearly.
